“While our guests in the paladar dine on ropa vieja, many Cubans have never even tasted beef.” ❤️

5 star book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved this book by chanelcleeton so much! The story of a granddaughter and grandmother, told in dual timelines that tell the story of life in Cuba in this family in the 1950s and 2017. The dual timelines worked perfectly to explain some things that granddaughter Marisol discovers while on her journey to fulfill her grandmother’s wishes upon her passing. Obviously grandmother is not around to explain things but the reader gets to know all the details of how these two stories intersect, and it’s a beautiful story! Definitely spilled some tears and had so much amazing Cuban music on while reading this. It was the perfect escape during this time of sheltering in place. I could feel the ocean breeze, smell the ropa vieja and picadillo and hear the music. I was so inspired by this book thatI made a Cuban dinner for Easter this year! I can’t wait to read Beatriz’s story next and I’ve already pre-ordered The Last Train to Key West!! ❤️

  1. My aunt went to Cuba in 1959. She was 19 and was in Miami with a friend and was offered a great deal to go to Cuba, so they went. I bought her this series a couple of weeks ago because her library is closed.
