A few days ago, WhatsApp pointed out that users who will not accept its new policies -before May 15- would lose functionalities. The first of them would be access to the chat list and therefore the possibility of interacting with your contacts.
Now, more than a week from the deadline, the company has retracted and it has indicated that users who have rejected its new terms will not lose functionality “for now.” However, they will occasionally receive a notification message inviting them to accept the new security policies.
WhatsApp Policies: Why is the platform softening the measure?
Indeed, the situation has aroused the interest of privacy advocates and even governments of different countries. This has generated discussions between both parties, which has caused Facebook to soften its measure. In fact, the company has indicated the following:
“Given recent discussions with various authorities and privacy experts, we want to make it clear that we currently have no plans to limit the functionality of how WhatsApp works for those who have not yet accepted the update. Instead, we will continue to remind users from time to time about the update, as well as when people choose to use relevant optional features, such as contacting a company that is supported by Facebook. “
Obviously, the pressure from governments has taken effect. The changes are reflected in a WhatsApp platform with all its functionalities, although users have rejected its new policies. So for now, we only have the question of how long the company will maintain this measure.
In the future, will WhatsApp go ahead with its new policies or will it end up discarding them?
