“We were midway through a dinner of roasted chicken and mashed potatoes, the comforting smells turned brittle by the strain in the air.” 💜

5 star read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was beautiful and moving and completely unexpected. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a book focused on scents and memory but this book was so much more than that. It’s the story of Emmeline, who is raised by her father on an island for most of her childhood and he keeps a collection of bottles that are corked in drawers that line the cabin that they live in. The book unravels what the meaning of those bottles are in such a unique and engrossing way. I felt very moved by many of the relationships in this book and I inhaled this book in one day. It’s so much more than just a story about scent and memory. It’s a book you should go into blind so I won’t say more except that it was breathtaking and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This was reesesbookclub Feb selection and I wouldn’t have picked it up otherwise so thanks, reesewitherspoon !💜
