Great, classic mystery noir. Super atmospheric and you get all of the LA vibes in the 1940s. Mystery man offering money, missing woman, out of a job protagonist… this had it all! Black man searching for a white femme fatale – what could go wrong? Lots of suspense and I love that it’s a series – I’d like to see how detective Easy Rawlins develops after this first case. My husband saw me reading this and told me there’s a Denzel Washington movie of this book so we watched it together. Definitely preferred the book (no surprise) but it was fun to see the adaptation on screen. Another wonderful pick by calbookclub and always look forward to the author chat ! I can’t wait for next month’s pick- America is Not the Heart ! Have had it sitting on my unread shelf too long !!! Join in if it’s ok your TBR too! 💙
