This book was suspenseful and engrossing. It kind of started a bit slow for me but it ramped up to a heart-racing pace at the end! It actually gave me a twinge of anxiety reading it because it was so full of suspense. While Helena, the main character, was rather unlikable, I think the author did a great job of building her layers to better understand her. She was not one-dimensional but rather a complicated, tortured woman. It slightly reminded me of The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield but a much more modern take. This was a past pick from the ladies at and I wouldn’t have heard of if they hadn’t picked it! Hosts tagged in photo. 🧡
