Learn how to free up space in Google Photos by changing the quality of stored images

As of June 1, 2021, Google will start charging for your cloud storage. The prices will vary according to the three plans to choose from and the photos that we upload from the aforementioned date onwards will take up space. In this opportunity we will explain how to change the quality of all the images that we have uploaded in Google Photos to have more storage.

It should be noted that if we carry out this compression operation (quality change) there will be no going back and we will not be able to pass them back to the original quality, we will sacrifice quality of our images, although the changes will not be appreciated, due to space. Knowing this important detail, let us know the steps to follow.

PROCESS

The first step is to enter the following link photos.google.com. Within the website of Google Photos we are going to move to the right corner of the page and press the option “Settings” (it is with the symbol of a cogwheel).

Within this section we can read “Photos and videos upload size” and two options, “Original” (saves photos and videos without changing their quality) and High Quality (saves more content with a slightly reduced quality).

Finally, we press “Reset storage” and “Reduce” and the following message will appear: “The reduction of videos and photos can take more than an hour and is an irreversible action”.

In this way, all the space occupied by the original photos in the service will be freed up. Google Photos It will take a while to make the changes that will depend on the amount of photos and videos that we have stored. At the end of the process, we will have compressed photos taking up less space.
