Wow, this book blew me away. I loved Emoni, her abuela, her best friend and I was rooting for her the entire time. Emoni is a teen mom who is navigating motherhood while juggling school and her passion for cooking. I loved everything about this book. I felt transported to Philly and Emoni’s Puerto Rican neighborhood. The cast of characters is rich and so well written, I felt like if I bumped into them on the street, I would recognize them. This book moved me to tears. When she is fundraising for a trip, I felt her passion, excitement and was with her through the results of it as well. I don’t want to write any spoilers but this felt so real to me and I cared deeply about the characters. This was my first Acevedo but I can’t wait to read all her works. The author narrated this on audio and it was PHENOMENAL. I read along with hosted by barkingaboutbooks and thechroniclesofkate and it was a great book to discuss! Pick this one up now if you haven’t already! ❤️
