“‘Good morning, honey,’ Mom says, and tells me breakfast is a quarter of a watermelon that’s been sitting in a corner of our refrigerator for a week.” ❤️

Read this one in February with unabridgedpod for the and we had a great discussion! This book really hit close to home, as we went through a drought a little while back here in California and were on similar restrictions (no watering lawns, no unnecessary water usage). My 13 year old read this 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. It’s definitely YA but it’s so relevant, I’d recommend it to adults as well. It got surprisingly dark but also super realistic too. I didn’t love the cast of characters but Alyssa and Garrett were my favorites. The others felt more forced in terms of their development. It wasn’t a page turner where I couldn’t put it down but it was still very readable. I did get VERY thirsty reading this! The audiobook was also really good – worth checking out. I love with my son and even though I was 2 years behind, we had a great discussion and he remembered many, many details which makes me think it was impactful! ❤️

  1. We so enjoyed discussing this with you!! I’ve been amazed by how relevant and how close that one feels.

  2. So sweet about your son! And I agree with what you shared; the premise is so relevant, but sometimes the character development/ plot events felt a little contrived. Still, I really enjoyed it and loved discussing it! ❤️
