Not so long ago, Apple presented the new version of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro . Because it is half a millimeter thicker than its predecessor, it no longer fits perfectly in the Magic Keyboard accessory. Many users were quite upset about this. The new generation of the iPad Pro, which can be pre-ordered from today, is not cheap with a price tag that starts at 1,219 euros. But if you also have to replace your old, still functioning Magic Keyboard, you can get another 399 euros from your purse.
Apple blames screen protectors
Apple has now published an official statement about the fit issues. In it, the manufacturer says that the ‘old’ version of the Magic Keyboard accessory is functionally fully compatible with the new generation of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
The fact that the new large iPad is half a millimeter thicker, Apple also acknowledges, can indeed prevent the cover of the Magic Keyboard from closing exactly when you close it. Especially when you have applied a screen protector to the screen of the iPad. In fact, Apple blames the screen protectors.
Functionally fully compatible
Previous posts suggested that the old version of the Magic Keyboard would not work on the new iPad Pro. That turns out to be incorrect. In its statement, Apple guarantees that the first generation of the Magic Keyboard, with model number A1998, is normally and fully functionally compatible with the iPad Pro from 2021.
For the new 11 inch version of the iPad Pro, in combination with the 11 inch Magic Keyboard, these problems do not apply anyway. That iPad is exactly the same as its predecessor in terms of dimensions.
