“A breeze rose. It cooled their skin as whiskey warmed it, flask moving from hand to hand. Cheese sandwiches and salami for dinner around the campfire.” –

Happy Thanksgiving! Chose this book to post because books like this one make me thankful, as reading brings such fulfillment to my life and thankful for for bringing books like this into my life. Heard about this one from lupita.reads months ago! Touching and beautiful, this book is about 5 Uruguayan queer women navigating friendship, life and love in the 70s and 80s (mostly) while their country is under a ruthless dictatorship. This book moved me to tears and the hopefulness and grace I read in these pages are moments I will carry with me. The bonds of family and community, both blood and chosen, were beautifully depicted in this book . The first book I’ve read about Uruguay and hopefully not the last. 💙
